On this day in 1969, Jimi Hendrix was arrested at Pearson International Airport in Toronto after customs security found heroin and hash in his luggage.
Hendrix was released on a $10,000 cash bond that same day.
Later that evening, Hendrix and The Experience played a show at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens.
Hendrix was ordered to appear in court on a later date. During the trial, Hendrix’s defense for having the narcotics was that a fan must have slipped the stuff in his luggage without his knowledge.
He was acquitted of all charges.
