January 8, 2004

Jan8On this day in 2004, George Harrison’s estate sued Dr. Gil Lederman of Staten Island University Hospital for $10 million, alleging that he had forced a dying Harrison to sign a souvenir for him.

Lederman apparently brought his three children – one, guitar in hand – to Harrison’s bedside just two weeks prior to Harrison’s death and had his son play guitar for a few minutes before laying it on Harrison’s lap and asking him to sign it. Harrison replied that he didn’t know if he could remember how to spell his own name. Lederman leaned over and lent a helping hand with the signature while spelling out loud G-E-O-R-G-E H-A-R-R-I-S-O-N.
