On this day in 1960, Johnny Cash played the first of his jailhouse shows when he performed at San Quentin prison in San Rafael, California.  Among those in the captive audience was Merle Haggard, who was serving time for burglary.

These concerts would spawn the live records, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison, in 1968, and Johnny Cash at San Quentin, in 1969.
