On this day in 1968, Frank Zappa performed at a dinner for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), these are the “professions” who decide on the outcome of the Grammy Awards.

The often outspoken Zappa tells the audience, “All year long you people have manufactured this crap, now for one night you’re gonna have to listen to it! Your whole affair is nothing more than a load of pompous hokum, and we’re going to approach you on your own level.”
