Nominated for: Best Folk or Roots
What was the first thing that came to mind when you learned you were
nominated? I thought, “who am I up against?” Then when I saw the list I thought “That’s a solid group of songwriters!”
What will you do if you win? I’ll be onstage at the Burdock in Toronto, performing Tom Petty tunes! I’ll certainly be checking in during the breaks. I’ll probably send a text to my producer James Bunton though, he’s the reason the album sounds so great!
Why should you win? I think my album “William” succeeds as a folk album because of the well thought out lyrics. I spent a lot of time on the songwriting process, and I there are subtleties that can be revealed on further listening. Basically speaking, I think it’s an album that TIMA can be proud of say, 5 years from now.
If you weren’t nominated, who would you be rooting for? That’s a tough question. Like I said earlier, I was happy with how great the nominees are. JoJo Worthington is a great young songwriter, and I can’t wait to see what her future holds. Birds of Bellwoods are the hardest working guys in the business, and they sure know how to get a crowd on their feet. Kensington Prairie are old friends of mine, Rebecca has such a lovely voice. The only one I’m not as familiar with is Ash & Bloom, but I have met them before and they’re really great guys. So whoever wins will be a good choice!
