On this day in 1966, The theme song to the TV series Batman reached it’s chart peak at No.17.
Titled ‘Batman Theme’, the song was composed by Neal Hefti. Hefti constructed the song around a guitar hook similar to that of a spy film score and surf music. Fully equipped with a twelve bar blues progression, using only three chords until the coda.
Bass guitar, low brass and percussion were used to create a stimulating rhythm, while an eight-voice chorus sung “Batman!” in harmony with the trumpets. The eleven counts of “Batman!” were performed by The Ron Hicklin Singers, a chorus of four tenors and four sopranos.
