Hey there weekenders. It’s Sunday, and you know what that means. Time for your weekly shot of medicinal music. No, no – not shot. That’s not very relaxing. Well, let’s just call it your weekly dose. There we go. All better. You feel better, don’t you? Trust me, I’m a doctor. I even have a license and everything.
Broken Bells’ ‘Holding on to Life’ starts us off, in grand style, with their moody, morning-after-the-party atmosphere (perfect for whatever you’re doing after Saturday night). Bonobo comes up next with ‘Silver’, injecting – Oh! No! Sorry, no injections – ‘Silver’ introduces a deserved dose of downtempo distraction.
‘Platoon‘ by Jungle picks things up with a slightly retro groove, slipping in a little dankness into the atmosphere. The Black Keys follow close on Jungle’s heels with ‘Meet Me In The Middle’, their cover of the Junior Kimbrough tune. This is pure, simple, and good blues.
Foals‘ ‘Late Night‘ dims the lights next. The driving tempo somehow still manages to keep us in the late night mood (see what I did there?) and it’s the perfect tonic against the mid-playlist blahs.
Starting off the second half of the playlist, we have London Grammar with ‘Metal and Dust’, the unbelievably sweet and tender track off their debut album.
Etherwood comes a-jivin’ in with ‘Spoken’, picking up the tempo a bit (can’t let you nod off just yet). Reverberating echoes and a noodling synth ostinato make this track feel like a breath of fresh air.
‘Cavalier’ by James Vincent McMorrow returns us to our nocturnal mood, right before Tracy Chapman sends us off into the night with the ever hopeful and uplifting ‘The Promise’.
