With all the musical headway happening to Montreal the last few years, it’s probably best that I come to terms with the fact that this city will forever impress and surprise me with the talent it produces. Enter Jef Barbara, a Montreal prince of dance-darkness who’s got a voice that stands on the thin line between frightening and delightful.
With an array of mystic dance producers, as well as some Bowie and Freddie Mercury influence, Barbara kicks off promotion for his sophomore release Soft to the Touch (due out later this month) with a remix EP of the album’s first single, ‘I Know I’m Late’. The catchy-yet-dark ’80s themed track complements Barbara’s vocals perfectly with bouncy synths and 808s worthy of a dance.
The remix EP comes complete with five remixes. Standout tracks include the chill trancy mix by The Victoria’s as well as the hypnotic Low Sea mix. Look out for the refreshing guest appearance by Edmonton alternative hip hop artist, Cadence Weapon.
Jef Barbara’s I Know I’m Late Remixes EP is currently available on iTunes and the new album, Soft to the Touch, is available for pre-order on ITunes and will be released September 30.
