September19Today in 1951, Canadian record producer, Daniel Lanois was born.

Born in Hull, Que., Lanois’ famous clients have included U2, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel and Bob Dylan.

In 1980, Lanois and his brother, Robert, opened the Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ont. Eno was one of his first clients, and the two co-produced several projects, including U2’s The Unforgettable Fire in 1984 and The Joshua Tree in 1987, which went on to win a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

In 2010, while working with Neil Young on his Le Noise album, Lanois suffered multiple injuries in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles, though he has since recovered.

Lanois was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2005. He also received a lifetime achievement award at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
