November 5, 1982

Nov5On this day in 1982, Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys parted ways on the orders of Wilson’s new psychiatrist and caretaker, Dr. Eugene Landy.

Landy was a well known psychologist in the entertainment business during the 1970s and ’80s for getting performers such as Alice Cooper and The Brady Bunch’s Maureen McCormick off of drugs and back on track, both physically and mentally.

Landy over-stepped his boundaries while working with Wilson, using an unconventional 24-hour therapy, which included control of “every aspect of [his] physical, personal, social and sexual environments”.

Landy’s unprofessional relationship with Wilson cost him his medical license and reputation.
