On this day in 1968, Creedence Clearwater Revival released ‘Bad Moon Rising’.
Written by John Fogerty and recorded by CCR, the song was the top single from their record Green River.
The song would reach No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart. It was CCR’s second gold single.
The song was apparently written after Fogerty watched the film The Devil and Daniel Webster. He was inspired by a scene showing a hurricane; when later asked what it was about, Fogerty answered, “It’s about the apocalypse that was going to be visited upon us.”
‘Bad Moon Rising’ has been recorded by over 20 contrasting artists, in an assortment of styles including folk, reggae, punk, heavy metal and jazz.
