March 20, 1969

On this day in 1969, John Lennon married Yoko Ono in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar at The Rock Hotel.

They started their famous honeymoon in Amsterdam at the Hilton Hotel, where, for an entire week, they would campaign from their bed in what they called the “Bed-In for Peace”. Their plans to do the same in America failed when they were denied entry back into the country.

The two headed for Canada and stayed at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, where they would end up recording ‘Give Peace A Chance’, which would become an anthem for peace and hope across the entire world.

The following month Lennon had his name changed to John Ono Lennon.
