On this day in 1994, Courtney Love called 911, claiming that her husband, Nirvana front-man Kurt Cobain, had locked himself in a room at their Lake Washington Blvd. home in Seattle with a shotgun. She said he was suicidal.
When police arrived they questioned both Love and Cobain on what had taken place. Cobain told the police that he was not suicidal and did not have a gun in the room, that he was only locked in the room to try to avoid the confronting Love during an argument.
When the police got Love’s side of the story, she actually admitted to lying about seeing Cobain with a gun, as well as her previous claim that he had made any suicidal statements. She said she lied because she was worried about him after he went into the room and locked the door and she wanted someone to make sure he was okay. Love was issued a warning for making the false 911 call, as well as for lying to police. The Seattle police confiscated four guns, as well as “unknown” prescription medication.
