June 5, 1968

JUNE5On this day in 1968, Senator Robert Kennedy was shot three times while exiting through a kitchen at The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, where he had just delivered a speech after winning the Democratic nomination for president of the United States.

This event prompted David Crosby to write “Long Time Gone”, and The Rolling Stones to write the lyrics, “Who killed the Kennedys?” for their new song, “Sympathy For The Devil”. The Stones had actually been in the recording studio during the shooting and they decided to change their original lyrics. The original lyrics were, “Who killed Kennedy?”
