July29On this day in 1997, Pantera’s Official Live: 101 Proof was released.

Produced by Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell, it was recorded through 1996 and 1997.

The first fourteen tracks are live recordings of songs from previously released studio albums, including ‘Cowboys From Hell’, ‘This Love’, ‘Fucking Hostile’ and ‘Walk’. The last two songs – ‘Where You Come from’ and ‘I Can’t Hide’ – were new studio recordings.

The album cover art is meant to look like a Jack Daniels Old No. 7 brand whiskey bottle label with “101 Proof” referring to alcohol content and “No. 5”, as the band considered this this is their fifth “official” release.

Official Live: 101 Proof reached No. 15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and stayed on the chart for 12 weeks.
