July27On this day in 1964, Rex Brown was born in Graham Texas.

Brown is an American musician and author, who is best known as the bassist for the heavy metal band Pantera.

Brown’s work with Pantera landed the band a Grammy nomination, as well as platinum-selling records from 1982 to 2003.

Brown joined Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo with his side project Down, playing bass from 2001 to 2011. He is currently the bassist for the band Kill Devil Hill.

Brown  authored a book he crowned Official Truth 101 Proof, released in April of 2013. The book documented Pantera’s formation, career and break-up.

Due to Brown’s alcohol consumption over the years, he has suffered through many health concerns. In August of 2009, Brown was hospitalized and had to sit out the Down tour due to acute pancreatitis. His liver damage and cigarette addiction have been a constant health factor as well.

Brown was married, now divorced, but is in a relationship.

He has two children.
