July 24, 1977

July24On this day in 1977, the original line up for Led Zeppelin played their last show ever in the United States.

Two days after the concert at the Oakland Coliseum, Robert Plant learned that his son Karac died, and the band cancels the rest of their tour.

People often attribute the end of Led Zeppelin with the passing of drummer John Bonham, when in fact the band had planned to end after this tragedy took place.

Plant was on tour at the time of his son’s illness and was grief stricken over not being able to be there for him.

Karac Plant died from a stomach disease at age five.
