January3Today in 1987, Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Franklin would go on to be awarded many more accolades. In 1990, she earned the NARAS Grammy Legend award. She received a medal from the Kennedy Center Honors, as well as a NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. In 1999, she received the National Medal of Arts, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.
