On this day in 2004, the Dave Matthews Band had a shitty incident.
One of their tour buses emptied their septic tank over the Chicago River as 100 sightseers crossed under the grated Kinzie Street Bridge on the Chicago River when a downpour of foul-smelling, brownish-yellow poop soaked them and ruined their clothes, as well as making several of them sick. They were hit with 800 pounds of human feces.
After pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and water pollution, the bus driver was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine, do 150 hours of community service and serve 18 months of probation.
Today is a day that will forever leave a stain for being one of the shittiest days in Chicago’s history.
Remember, “don’t drink the water!”
