August 31, 1976

On this day in 1976, George Harrison was found guilty of “subconscious plagiarism.”

In a lawsuit which started in February 1971, Bright Tunes Music Corp. brought a copyright infringement action against Harrison, claiming that he plagiarized “He’s So Fine” by The Chiffons for his song “My Sweet Lord.”

My personal opinion is that Harrison knew exactly what he was doing, you can listen on YouTube to the two songs being played at the same time, they are identical except lyrical changes, there had to be more than a subconscious at work, plus, Harrison had another track on that same record that was another rip off from The Chiffons… oh’ did I mention the record was co-produced with fucking Phil Spector, case closed!
