Toronto-based rapper Tremayne is breaking through from 2015 with his new video “City Lights”, produced by StayOutLate Arts & Entertainment. There isn’t much of an online presence here aside from a few quotes on Soundcloud and Facebook, like the one describing an edgier upbringing: “When I was 5 my mother threw me in the deep end of a pool to teach me there’s only two options in life. Sink or swim”.
The locations, the vibe, and everything in between strike me as a video that combines the old school rap scene with today’s more refined brand. The music is a lot more modern, the beat being drawn-out and lightly handed. In a neon-hued Toronto city, Tremayne sticks to his Canadian roots and celebrates the place he came from.
