November 22, 1963

On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in Texas while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza.

His death impacted the entire world. Songs are still being written about him over 50 years later; about his empowering impact, his awful demise, his widow Jackie and views surrounding the lone assassin/patsy Lee Harvey Oswald.

Here is just a small list:

XTC – “The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead”                   The Byrds – “He Was a Friend of Mine”

Tori Amos – “Jackie’s Strength”                                     Guns N’ Roses – “Civil War”

Lou Reed – “The Day John Kennedy Died”                   Steve Earle – “Conspiracy Theory”

Billie Joel – “We Didn’t Start the Fire”                            Shona Laing – “Glad I’m Not a Kennedy”

Pearl Jam – “Brain of J”                                                 Lee Harvey Osmond – “Cuckoo’s Nest”

The Police – “Born in the 50’s”                                      Wyclef Jean – “If I was President”
