On this day in 1997, Elvis Presley officially topped the list of dead musicians with more than one billion in record sales.

Elvis has sold over 2.5 billion records worldwide, and has been on the charts more times than any other artist or group.

Elvis has the most hits in the Top 100, the Top 40, the Top 10, and has had 32 No. 1 records.

Elvis is the only artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.

He was nominated for 41 Grammy Awards, though he only won three.

The Beatles are next at No. 2 on the list of all time highest record sellers with nearly 1.6 billion records sold worldwide.
