On this day in 1958, Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Born to African-American parents, his father was a pianist and songwriter, and his mother was a jazz singer. Prince was named after his father’s stage name, Prince Rogers. A little sister Tika Evene (a.k.a., Tyka) arrived in 1960, the two kids would grow up bonding over music.
Prince would write his first song on piano when he was just the mere age of seven, of which he titled “Funk Machine”.
