October 9, 1940

On this day in 1940, John Winston Lennon was born to Julia and Alfred Lennon in Liverpool, England. The “Winston” comes from British Prime Minister Winston Churchill – John would later add “Ono” to his middle name in honor of Yoko.

A neat thing happened for Lennon in 1975, when Sean Lennon was born on his 35th birthday.

In the year 2000, the first ever John Lennon museum opened in Japan on what would have been Lennon’s 60th birthday. (Yoko allows it to run for 10 years before terminating the agreement, as she felt Lennons spirit should stay in motion.)
