Nancy Love bedazzles the Toronto music scene with her debut album This Is Me, released earlier this year. To get an army of pre-teens excited, she’s been teasing tracks and music videos like “Fresh to Me”.
So what exactly is her sound? Well, we’ve had Britney Spears and Carly Rae Jepsen – and she ranks among these gals. If they aren’t your cup of tea (as they aren’t mine), then we’re done here. Go outside. Go for a walk. Literally anything but proceed with this article.
Not only is she one of the most bubbly of bubble gum pop stars, but her video to “Fresh to Me” is the most generic type of music video. It’s the typical flashy performance video that was made popular in the ‘90s with glamorous pop idols and boy bands.
Sure, she’s cute. But her music lacks nuance (though it’s admittedly in high demand, so her career is likely to get some grounding at least) and her video is just the same as all these other pop stars. She has a great voice, but so do a lot of other people. You can say that any genre gets caught up in repetition, but usually other genres in the indie community blend their sounds with other types of music to experiment with something new. There’s wasn’t much of a drawing board here.
