Meet your TIMA nominees :: Vandana Vishwas

VandanaVishwasName:  Vandana Vishwas

Nominated for: Best World

Location: Mississauga

What was the first thing that came to mind when you learned you were nominated? I was humbled because TIMA is such a prestigious award.
What will you do if you win? I will be very happy 🙂

Why should you win? For some reason, south Asian music is still not considered to be an essential part of ‘World Music’ like Latin and African music is, and I want to change that perception. My music is based on authentic North Indian Classical music and yet has collaborative elements from Jazz, Western classical and some other ethnic genres. I hope I am doing a meaningful work by exposing the ‘World Music’ community of Canada and abroad to authentic Indian music, and by exposing the south Asian audiences to other genres through my music. A TIMA win will mean a lot to me and my community.

If you weren’t nominated, who would you be rooting for? All of them! Sultans of String are a fantastic group, Daniela has a beautiful voice, Eunice and Ron are also wonderful! Everyone is a winner for me!

Other Comments?  TIMA, led by Dani is doing a wonderful job promoting Indie music. I am honoured to be one of the nominees and wish to thank TIMA for this opportunity. All the best to the fellow nominees – you’re all winners for me!
