Meet your TIMA nominees :: NUA

Nominated for: Best Instrumental or Classical

Members (if applicable): James Law, Graeme McGillivray, Jacob McCauley

Location: Toronto

What was the first thing that came to mind when you learned you were nominated? We we’re excited to be nominated for an award in our home city of Toronto that is full of many talented acts of all different genres.

What will you do if you win? We’d like to take the opportunity if won to increase our exposure in Ontario and primarily into the non-Folk/Celtic scene. We always like to give back to the community and would like to use our adding exposure to meet and play for a new audience. We also have a CD release party for our upcoming album in the new year and would like to make it the best one yet!

Why should you win? Although there are many fantastic acts nominated, we feel that our music carries a certain uniqueness that is not found anywhere else in the province. Although we are loosely considered Celtic, our influences range from Jazz, Rock, Fusion and World Music and we primarily write original tunes (the majority of Celtic groups play non-original ie Traditional tunes and songs). We enjoy pushing the boundaries of Folk/Celtic Music and doing something that is uniquely our own.
We’ve been fortunate to receive great press and reviews from Canada’s own Penguin Eggs Magazine, Celtic Life International Magazine, as well as Irish Music Magazine, The Living Tradition Magazine, best albums of 2013 by FolkWorld and top 10 Traditional Irish Music Album Covers of 2013 by TradConnect.

If you weren’t nominated, who would you be rooting for? We did a festival a year to ago with Juneyt and enjoyed his music very much.

Other comments? Huge thanks to all the staff and jury at TIMA for their hard work and putting together a fantastic opportunity for so many independent acts.
