February 25, 1998

Feb25On this day in 1998, Ol’ Dirty Bastard pulled the first Kanye at the 40th Grammy Awards.

Mr. Bastard grabbed the mic from Shawn Colvin during his acceptance speech for the Song of the Year award, proclaiming that “Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best” and that “Wu-Tang is for the children”. Can’t argue there.

That year’s Grammys were also marked by a background dancer’s decision to rip of his shirt revealing the words ‘Soy Bomb’ painted on his chest during a Bob Dylan performance.

Dylan also took home the award for Best Album for Time Out Of Mind.
