December31Today in 1969, Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys made their debut performance at the Fillmore East in New York City.

Band of Gypsys included Billy Cox on bass, and Buddy Miles on drums. This group was the to Hendrix’s first band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

At this performance, the trio recorded some songs that would later comprise Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys album. The record would become the last album that Hendrix authorized, and the only Hendrix album release on Capitol Records. It hit No. 5 in the U.S. and No. 6 in the U.K.
