blog :: Polaris names worthy 2015 winner

BuffySainteMarie-1Well, it’s about damn time…

By now, you’ve probably (hopefully) heard that Buffy Sainte-Marie was named the winner of the 2015 Polaris Music Prize, taking home the $50,000 award. Her well-deserving album, Power in the Blood, was released in May and is an amazingly fierce record.

Sainte-Marie’s vocals have aged perfectly over her 50-year career and the album incorporates everything from blues to R&B to post-psych to folk, and, of course, Sainte-Marie’s First Nations background.

The album also highlights Sainte-Marie’s incredible career, with re-releases and covers of some of her most influential songs, including ‘It’s My Way’, the title track of her 1964 debut record.

On behalf of everyone here at Raz Mataz, I’d like to extend a great, big congratulations! to Buffy Sainte-Marie!
