Top 5: Musician ALS Ice Bucket Challenges

Editor’s Note: Top 5 is a new weekly series counting down the top five items in a category. It’s pretty self-explanatory. This is the first one.

If you haven’t yet heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, you very well may have been living under a rock.

To raise awareness and funds for ALS research, people have been dumping ice water over themselves, then nominating three others to do the same.

Everyone’s gotten in on the challenge – which has raised more than $40 million, so far. Anna Wintour did the challenge. So did Chris Evans, Steven King, Anna Kendrick, Patrick Stewart, Mitt Romney, and this girl, who, as BuzzFeed points out, has a stellar voice.

The single best video has come from Anthony Carbajal. This should be the first video you watch; it explains the seriousness of the disease and really drives home the point of the whole Ice Bucket Challenge.

A whole bunch of musicians have participated, too. Here is our list of the Top 5 musician ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (and if you haven’t yet – donate here!)

5 – Jack Black

Jack Black performed the challenge with the most gusto of almost any video we’ve seen. He’s also pretty funny and adorable, and we like that.

4 – Eddie Vedder

Vedder is so sincere during this video, and he takes the ice water like a pro. He also takes his kids’ request to nominate Niall Horan from One Direction.

3 – The Darcys

Okay, so it’s just Jason who actually does the challenge, but we love the incentive the band is taking: donate to the cause and you could win tickets to the Indie88 Birthday Party.

2 – Dr. Dre

Of all the people I expected to be on this list, Dr. Dre was not one of them. Don’t get me wrong: I absolutely love the guy, and now I love him even more. Extra kudos for the fancy bucket-dropping rig and the slow-motion highlight reel.

1 – Foo Fighters

Leave it to Dave Grohl to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to a who new level. His video is hysterical and ingenious, and you should watch it (and then donate).
