May4Today in 1970, four students at Kent University were killed, and eleven more were wounded by National Guard troops at a campus demonstration protesting the escalation of the Vietnam War and the students’ disapproval of President Richard Nixon.

Neil Young, inspired by the tragedies, quickly sat down and wrote the classic, heart-crushing anti-political song, ‘Ohio’.
