The Beatles version of the track was recorded in 1965 for the album, Help! It hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, though it only peaked at No. 8 on the U.K. singles chart.

As of 2009, the song had been covered more than 2,200 times by artists including Aretha Franklin, Katy Perry, Marianne Faithfull, The Mamas and the Papas, Joan Baez, Michael Bolton, Bob Dylan, Liberace, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, LeAnn Rimes, and Boyz II Men, among many others.
