K.ryn

Kryn-1Back in 2013, K.ryn made his mixtape debut with The Beginning – a showcase of his early verse talents and sound synthesizing. We spoke to K.ryn about this album, which can be found on his SoundCloud page, and he described the process behind this mixture. He stands by the future of rap and drives to be a strong part of it in this conversation.

Raz Mataz Magazine (RMM): What kind of subject matter would you say inspired this album?
K.ryn: Life, in its own, is an inspiration: waking up and being able to breathe. But in reference to a specific subject matter which drove me to create this album, it was pretty much coming-of-age, dealing with family and growing up during in this generation of technology and accessibility. I find inspiration in inspiring others, especially with the lifestyle of a young man coming up, doing his thing with a voice to say something smart and motivated.

RMM: What do you think is the future of rap?

K.ryn: Many artists have started to use “rap and hip hop are dead” as a crutch or excuse to try and reinvent the wheel, and when they don’t get the response they wanted, they blame the “future” of the genre. I feel the future of rap and hip hop will never recede or disappear. There will always be someone willing to preserve its entity and integrity whether it be mainstream radio, online songs or whatever the new the medium is. With that said, when it comes to music, rap and hip hop will always have its own sound and its own place, as long as it speaks on behalf of people and not for them.

Kryn-2RMM: What themes do you plan on putting in your music in the future?

K.ryn: I always plan to discuss world issues, politics and whatever is culturally or timely relevant. It’s how I’ve always written and it is how I hope to continue. If you don’t believe me, listen to the intro from my first tape again.

RMM: What can you tell Raz Mataz about your next album?

K.ryn: My next mixtape, The Middle, will just be progression. I’ve grown so much, not just as an artist but as a person, and my life will reflect my music. It’s taking longer because I am also evolving my sound and my signature. So this time around, expect more amazing beats and verses that will keep you entertained and have you coming back for more.
