August 25, 2001

Aug25On this day in 2001, R&B singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash at age 22.

After shooting a music video in the Bahamas, Aaliyah and various members of the record company boarded a twin-engine Cessna 402B, but the overloaded plane went down shortly after takeoff.

Further investigations revealed that the pilot, Luis Morales had falsified his records to obtain the job he had had with Blackhawk International Airways.

Morales’ autopsy would disclose that he was flying with alcohol and cocaine in his system.
