April6Today in 2003, the White Stripes’ Elephant hit No. 1 on the U.K. album charts.

The album was the duo’s second studio record, their first with a major label. It would go on to win Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammys.

The critics also loved the album, with many claiming it to be a defining record in the 2000s garage rock revival.

While it sold more than 1.9 million copies in the U.S., it only reached No. 6 on the American charts.
