April 2, 1977

April2Today in 1977, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours hit No. 1 on the U.S. album chart.

The album is the band’s eleventh studio record and most successful record to date. It has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide, won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1978, and was generally critically acclaimed.

However, the recording process was tenuous, and marred by what has been described as hedonistic behaviour and interpersonal strife between members.

Still, the album went on to hit the top spot on album charts in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and the U.K.
