April 16, 1972

April16Today in 1972, Electric Light Orchestra made their debut at The Fox and Greyhound in London.

ELO was formed to accommodate former Move members Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne’s desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones.

Wood would later leave the band after its debut record. Lynne, meanwhile, wrote and arranged all of the band’s original compositions, and produced every one of the band’s albums.
