Ever wanted the perfect summer music for a morning stroll down the city in your new shoes? Yuna, the Malaysian singer-songwriter, composes nothing but a blue sky in her latest release since her self-titled debut album from last year.
Her Sixth Street EP will give you all the energy to strut your stuff down the Champs-Élysées with her dream-pop instrumental mixed in with her creamy vocals, all the way down to the jazz lounges in the heart of downtown Toronto. Her voice is unique and unbelievably catchy, and the instrumentals to back it up provide just as much a talent as she is.
Yuna’s first hit single, ‘Live Your Life’, brought this shy singer out of the shadows and into the limelight. Her album has had the honour of being produced by many music icons, one of which being Pharrell Williams. The power pair really showcase their musical blend in songs such as ‘Bad Idea’, ‘See You Go’ and, of course, her hit, ‘Live Your Life’.
Now Yuna, having recently been signed to Verve Records, is handling her music on her own, after being taught from the master. Sixth Street EP feels like it has taken two steps forward from her debut, which only screams that our new singer Yuna is unstoppable. Her recent hit off the EP, ‘I Wanna Go’, has shown to be quite the crowd pleaser at her live shows.
The EP shows promise and, more importantly, the development of Yuna musically, and stylistically. She has catwalked her way into the industry and has left behind an air of smooth jazz, retro synths, and just the right amount of charm. Sixth Street EP is proof that this artist needs no introduction, and that indie-pop has just gotten a little sweeter.
