Young Maverick :: Young Maverick

YoungMaverick-YoungMaverickI was recently wasting time on YouTube – you know how it goes. . . you click on one thing and then get intrigued by 50 other things. Well, that is how I stumbled across Young Maverick. These guys are young, cute, and pretty damn talented.

I started looking up more of their music and I have to admit I kind of feel in love. Young Maverick is an indie-pop band originating from Melbourne, Australia. They are self-described as “holiday pop”. To me they sound like a mix of Phoenix and The Smiths, a not-too-shabby comparison, if I do say so myself.

Young Maverick released their self-titled debut EP in 2012. It was engineered and mixed by Matt Voigt (Cat Power, Oh Mercy), resulting in a fun collection of summery tunes. Their song, ‘Janitor’, is one of my favourites; it’s fun and screams summer! You can’t help but bop to the infectious beat.

YoungMaverick-2‘Reception Deception’ is another stand-out track from Young Mavericks. This song has me hooked – it has some great guitar licks, and, about half way through the song, a ukulele kicks in.

All the songs I could find from this band are full of catchy hooks and carefree stories, a great playlist for a road trip with your friends!

The unfortunate thing is that the band hasn’t produced very much music. I’ve scorned the internet to find more albums but come up short. From what I have seen these guys have fans and are on their way to success, now if they could just release more albums!
