September8Today in 1952, Ray Charles recorded his first session for Atlantic Records.

Atlantic had bought Charles’ contract from Swing Time Records after that label folded.

Charles cut four songs out of the Atlantic session, including ‘The Midnight Hour’ and ‘Roll With My Baby’.

He would go on to record a number of hits with Altlantic, including ‘Mess Around’, ‘It Should Have Been Me’, and ‘Don’t You Know’.
