Today in 2008, Peter Gabriel received the Ambassador of Conscience Award from Amnesty International.
The award recognized Gabriel’s work campaigning for human rights around the world.
He started his work with Amnesty International in 1986, participating in all 28 of Amnesty’s Human Rights Concerts.
In 1992, he co-founded WITNESS, a non-profit group that equips, trains and supports local organizations that use video and the internet in human rights documentation and advocacy. That group went on the launch The Hub, a participatory media site for human rights.
