Reuben & the Dark at NXNE

RATD1Recent signees to Arts & Crafts, Calgary-based Reuben & The Dark were on at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto at eleven on Wednesday night, performing for the North by Northeast festival.

With little to their name, save for ‘Shoulderblade’, a chilling single, the indie-rock quartet is playing numerous shows and festivals around Canada this summer. You can view the bands’ tour dates over at their page on the Arts & Crafts website.

The drummer stood throughout the set – which proved to be more than the result of a missing stool when I saw photos from their set the following day at the Arts & Crafts pop-up shop, which featured him standing yet again.

Watching the quartet felt intimate due to the beautiful harmonies and emotionally-charged lyrics. They possess an energy that I have never felt before. A new discovery that has been put on my radar as a band to keep an eye on.
