We spoke with Mark Kingson of She Said Boom! about everything from why the tactile nature of records is so great to what record store day has become.
on why vinyls have outlasted other mediums:
“I think vinyl has lasted because, well, it’s a different medium, it’s a more attractive medium, it’s tactile. Consistently, it’s sounded very good.
“It’s also an activity. Buying a CD is just about going to the store and getting a CD. Whereas, buying records, even some new reissues, but especially older records, is a bit of a treasure, an activity. You go out on a Saturday afternoon and you find some things.”
on the importance of Record Store Day:
“Record Store Day brings us attention and the national and international attention to it also brings attention to little guys like us. It’s a celebration of the things that we love. It lets people know that we’re still alive and kicking.”
