Ray Manzarek passes away at 74

RayManzarekAfter a long battle with bile duct cancer, Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors, passed away on May 20, 2013, at a hospital in Rosenheim, Germany. Manzarek was in his 74th year.

Born Raymond Daniel Manczarek Jr. on February 12, 1939, he is best known as a founding member and keyboardist of The Doors. Active with the band from 1965 to 1973, Manzarek was also a singer, producer, director and author.

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, as well as a son, Pablo, and three grandchildren.

Musicians from Slash to Billy Idol have already come forth with statements of grievance, as well as recognition towards the legendary musician.
