Paper Lions is a Canadian pop-rock indie band hailing from the small town of Belfast, P.E.I. For the first four years of the band’s career, they were known as Chucky Danger Band. During that time, they toured all over Canada making quite a name for themselves. The band was nominated for ten East Coast Music awards, taking home Pop Recording of the Year in 2006. On February 21, 2008, the band announced that they were going to change their name to Paper Lions, and were going to go on a bit of a hiatus to regroup.
Their first release as Paper Lions was in 2010, with their album, Trophies, which was released to rave reviews. They performed at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, as well as at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China. The quartet has also performed with the likes of Carly Rae Jepson, CCR, Hey Rosetta!, and Collective Soul, to name just a few.
The band consists of two brothers, John MacPhee (vocals/guitar) and Rob MacPhee (bass), along with their childhood friends, David Cyrus MacDonald (drums), and Colin Buchanan (guitar).
Their new album, My Friends, will be released on August 20, 2013. Exclaim! Magazine has just released a list of twenty albums they’re most looking forward to this summer, and My Friends is among them! That feeling is mutual: fans can’t wait to get their hands on this album.
Their new single, ‘Philadelphia’, is a perfect summer song; something about this track just makes me happy. They also gave fans another sneak peek from their album, releasing a nostalgic song about friends and growing up called, ‘My Friend’, a few weeks ago. So far, I am impressed with these two releases. If this album is anything like their previous album, At Long Creek, then we can expect something great!
And be sure to check back for Carly’s interview with Paper Lions to find out about their new album and what fans can expect to hear!
