October 3, 1978

October3Today in 1978, Aerosmith posted bail for 30 people who were arrested for smoking pot at the band’s concert in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The concert was part of the band’s Live Bootleg! tour.

According to Stephen Davis, author of the band’s Walk This Way biography, Steven Tyler saw his seamstress, who lit a cigarette on stage, get arrested and manhandled by the police.

Shortly thereafter, Tyler called the police scumbags and referenced the gestapo. He stopped once he was threatened with an arrest himself – for inciting a riot.

Either way, Aerosmith promised to bail anyone who was arrested. And true to their word, the band’s tour accountant arrived at the courthouse the next day to pay $4,200 in bail and fines.
