October 16, 1972

October16Today in 1972, Creedence Clearwater Revival split up.

The band’s decision to part ways followed the failure of their most recent album, Mardi Gras.

John Fogarty, after limited success as a solo artist and legal woes with his label, Fantasy Records, would eventually have two hits in the 1980s: ‘Center Field’ and ‘Rock and Roll Girl’.

In 1990, Tom Fogarty, John’s brother, died of a heart attack. The surviving members of the band have since been touring as Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
