October 1, 2004

October1Today in 2004, The Lord Mayor of Melbourne officially opened AC/DC Lane.

The short, narrow laneway, which runs through Melbourne’s business district, was named after the legendary rock band.

At the opening, the mayor declared: “As the song says, there is a highway to hell, but this is a laneway to heaven. Let us rock.” Bagpipers then began playing ‘Long Way to the Top’.

The city also made extra signs, expecting that fans would steal them.
